The Fox Theater, originally named West Coast Oakland Theater, opened its doors in 1928 as a nearly 3000 seat movie theater. It began its run showing silent films and graduated to 'talkies' when William Fox took ownership – renaming the theater to the moniker we are familiar with today. Sadly, the theater closed its doors in 1966 but reopened in 2009 as a shining landmark of Oakland and destination for live music. While a fox isn't the animal you would normally pair with a crowded, loud venue, we think its still fits beautifully – not only for its namesake, but for the cunning ability to adapt and survive.
